So I thought it about time to get out and catch some fish. I decided that I would visit my local Bank house fishery. For those of you who don't know the lake, it is only around 2 and a half acres, but it is landscaped well and contains several islands. It also contains lots of rather large fish!!!
Since it is the holidays I didn't get up till around 9 which is unusual for me as I like to be the first there. By the time I had got there I found 9 other anglers already there and 2 more tackling up in the car park. So I purchased my ticket and stated on the first peg next to the lodge. As I approached the peg the angler on the peg next to me was in. What a way to start. However I fished for 20 minutes with no fish. I had follows and taps to my offerings (a mix of apps worms blobs and tadpoles) but no fish in the net.
So I moved round the lake onto the main island. On my way round I saw other anglers catching on an indicator and eggs, so I set up my bung and a pink egg. Well I needn't have bothered as after 15 minutes not even a touch. So back to lures. I was now fishing with a Snake fly which is like an extended Minkie. 2 minutes in and wack!! I was in, for all of about 5 seconds then the fished jumped and spat the hook great. It didn't matter to much as next cast I was in again but this time a beautiful 2 pounder was in the net. At last.
I carried on fishing with the snakes just changing colour and location every so often and kept catching. so I decided on a change. So I rigged up 2 Apps worms, one amber and the other olive and red. I fished these in an erratic maner at all depths and was getting lots of taps and pulls but not many solid connections An when I did get a connection they all came off within 5 seconds. Until I got what was possibly the hardest take I have ever felt, followed by one of the strongest fights. The fish was determined to go under the bridge and ever with with very powerful rod and 9 pound line I couldn't stop it. It then went under a bush and round a wooden post. After around 10 minutes I had it in the net, a small blue trout with the amber worm right in the scissors.
Time for another move, this time round the back of the lake. What a move this proved to be. Second cast and fish on. It felt a bit different to me then this whale jumped clean out of the water, I had hooked one of the lumps. Again the fish was determined not to come in and just stayed deep and kept running. This fight between man and beast lasted around 20 minutes until I had its head on the surface. Then disaster struck it wouldn't go in the net!!! So I beached the fish, what a relief The fish was around 11 pounds of pure muscle and was a delight to catch. What a way to start the 2013 season. Unfortunately the camera man was not the best so the pictures do not do the fish justice, but never the less here are the photos.
I kept fishing and catching on worms and snakes, but I had, had my fun so it was time for off. 12 fish on a hard day and a lump. Not a bad way to spend a few hours in the sun
