World team

Just to let you know that we went down to the EYFA AGM today. It was a great day where we listened to all of next years proposels and a summary of the world and international events of the organisation. The main reason why we went was to find out weather I had been picked for the world team, and I have so it is of to Italy next year!



Finally thanks to Dave Mee for picking me for the team and to all of the committee for a great year.

River Itchen

This weekend I was lucky enough to fish at the famous lower Itchen fishery. It was a fantastic day and the sun was shinning, but unfortunately after the rain, the water was not as clear as usual. Despite this, I set up with high hopes, with a french leader, a pink jig on the point and a PTN variant.

 By lunch I had 10 fish which was a little disappointing, so I tried a different fly on the point. What do you know, I start catching lots of fish. The final count was 35 fish and that made me one of the top rods for the day.

To top a fantastic day off, Sky Sports were there filming for their fishing show 'Tight Lines', this will be shown at 7pm on Friday on Sky Sports 4. Finally thanks to all the people who made it happen and to my dad or taking me.

Hi All
Last Saturday was a great day all round. I got some fantastic new materials from Flytek and  some new flies from Unique Flies. I also purchased some fantastic new fluorocarbon from Snowbee. And to top it all of Tony Riley and Paul Proctor gave a great demonstration on river casts.

I had another fantastic day yesterday with the England youth team. We fished at Pitsford water, in an easterly wind and heavy fog, but despite this I managed too catch 5 fish for 12 pounds 10 ounces. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to win but I was still up there with the top few.

 It was great that our team manager Rob Edmunds was also able to participate and as usual we learned top tips from him!. Thanks Rob

Saturday evening

I had a great evening fishing at Wych Elm trout fishery yesterday. Although there was lots of weed there were also lots of fish. I used a Diawl back on 4lb tippet to tempt 9 trout in 3 hours. The biggest went 4 pound 2 ounces, not bad for a 2 acre fishery.

Today I was lucky enough to get some casting instruction from AAPGAI instructor Tony Riley. I got to try some new rods and lines. It was a great day all round and gave me the opportunity to perfect my casting and pick up some more hints and tips to add to my armory.     Thanks Tony

Last weekend

Just had the best weekend of the year so far. Firstly me and John Macintosh came third in the Esthwaite pairs final with 11 fish, which was only 3 ounces of first place. And to top it all of the day after I had a fantastic day on the river Wharfe at the England National Finals, which I came 2nd in. This was a fantastic result for me and I hope this is only the start!

My name is James Atkinson, I am A very keen and avide fisherman that loves nothing else but to spend a day by the water. I mostly do Flyfishing but I also do Course fishing as well. I am also a capped youth international at fly fishing and this year I was part of the Gold winning team, I also gain the individual silver medal aswell.


I have also taken part in the Anglian Water Airflo international and got to the Northan final as part of the England Youth team, I aslo qualified for the the individual final at the same time. I am going to compeat in the lexus and Airflo again next year as well as the international in scotland.
